On November 8, 2005, Darryl Lewis (DOB: 2/24/67; residence 4141 W. Monroe, Chicago) was convicted by a federal jury of being a felon in possession of a weapon as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods Program. Lewis was arrested in June 2004 by Chicago Police Officers of the 10th District after he was seen at the corner of Central Park and 16th Street with a handgun. Officers had been patrolling the area and were able to arrest Lewis after he fled and threw the loaded weapon to the ground. The case was transferred to the federal system pursuant to the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program aimed at reducing gun violence and was tried before the Honorable David H. Coar. Sentencing is scheduled for February 15, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. in the Dirksen Federal Building, Honorable David H. Coar's courtroom.

The case was tried by Assistant United States Attorneys Eric Sussman and Maggie Hickey. The case agent was Special Agent Mark Padilla of the ATF.
