Parolee Forums

Parolee and probation forums are the cornerstone of PSN’s efforts to reduce recidivism and promote opportunities to individuals recently released from prison. Nowhere are PSN’s partnerships most evident than at a parolee forum. Representatives from local, state and federal law enforcement present a unified front in warning new citizens of the consequences of their actions should they decide to re-offend. The theme of these forums is, “It’s your choice.” Law enforcement makes clear that we want them to succeed by becoming productive citizens, but if they make the wrong choice, we will be there to prosecute them.

The second half of the parolee forum involves presentations from social service providers. Programs such as the Safer Foundation and Career Advancement Network, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office for Workforce Development, offer opportunities for new citizens to enroll in job search preparation and retention trainings upon re-entry. Speakers often include former offenders who discuss their past experiences with re-entry and emphasize individual responsibility in reforming their lives. By providing the tools to gain employment, PSN’s partners work to ensure motivated individuals will have a fighting chance when re-entering into society.
